The 12-Week Year Challenge: Super Goals

There is so much that I want to accomplish. Truly. But, I’m getting better about being realistic and understanding my limitations as a mere mortal. Believe me when I say . . . I have no superhuman/hero complex whatsoever. So, the three SUPER GOALS that I’m tackling during this 12-week year are doable . . . IF I consistently execute the plan that I’ve laid out for myself.

Executing the plan . . . doing the work . . . that’s what gets the goals got.

No shortcuts, or cheat codes, or fast tracks. Just good, old-fashioned “putting the reps in” where it counts.

That right there — the repeated reps (the “atomic habits”) is what will get us to our goal destination a lot faster than our drawn-out periods of inactivity mixed with some occasional effort. You know that on again, off again stuff that we do oh-so-well? Or, we might spend an egregious amount of time acquiring the knowledge on how to do the thing that will get us to our desired outcome, but then, we never put that knowledge to work for us.

Your acquired knowledge that’s never applied for your betterment (or the betterment of others) is nothing but wasted information. I know this from personal experience, and I don’t want to function in this world of inactivity anymore. Which is why I have voluntarily chosen to enter into . . .

The 12-Week Year Challenge!

And, here are the SUPER GOALS (in no particular order) that I want to either have accomplished in their entirety or be pretty stinkin’ close to having them accomplished in the next 12 weeks.

  • Write a minimum of 3 winning grant proposals/applications for the nonprofit I serve.
  • Lose 10 pounds.
  • Welcome 5 new members to my youth leadership membership.

Now, this list is not comprehensive. It doesn’t include all of the goals I’d like to accomplish in the near future, but the three goals listed are the ones that are top of mind at this moment in time. Again, I’m being realistic on what I can intently focus on for the next 12 weeks. The top 3 in the goals list, as stated above, are my current focus. And, you’ll notice that I have 2 professional goals, but I’ve thrown in a personal goal, as well.

Balance, my friend.

That’s a good concept to bring over to goal-setting, if you can. Keeping an eye on the person as well as the professional is of paramount importance, because your unique makeup more than likely consists of both. Right? And, “professional” doesn’t necessarily mean that you hold an official job title as some kind of professional role in the workplace. It can also mean that, within your day-to-day at the homestead or elsewhere, you may be functioning in a way that brings out professional skill sets that you may commonly see in “professional” settings.

So, my goal concentrations carry weight on both sides of the life balance spectrum.

Getting back to my top 3 goals for this 12-week year . . .

  • Write a minimum of 3 winning grant proposals/applications for the nonprofit I serve.
  • Lose 10 pounds.
  • Welcome 5 new members to my youth leadership.

I obviously have to have some mini step/goals that must be accomplished — on a regular basis — in order to get these SUPER GOALS checked off my list of major to-dos. And, let’s just say that it’s going to take some daily and weekly habit-forming effort to make these dreams of mine a reality.

Next time, I’ll reveal how I’m going about assigning the mini goals that will lead to the SUPER GOAL achievement and how I’m tracking them to keep myself focused and on course. I’ll also let you in on how the first full week of goaling for “The 12-Week Year Challenge” actually went. I’m still in the midst of it right now, so I didn’t want to report on the week until I actually finished the first full week.

So, stay tuned for the journey. It began to unfold on October 4th, and I already have some lessons learned that I’ve identified right out the gate.

Until next time . . .
