The 12-Week Year Challenge

You read it right! I’m embarking upon a new “challenge.” I’m actually challenging myself to “get more done in 12 weeks than others do in 12 months,” and I’m using Brian P. Moran’s and Michael Lennington’s book, The 12 Week Year, to do just that.

I think I’m on my third read of this fantastic book. And while the book is extremely motivational, I’m only going to benefit from its contents by taking action on the information that I’ve read multiple times now. As a matter of fact, the action part is emphasized all throughout this book, because it’s the execution of the plan that GETS GOALS GOT.

So, The 12 Week Year will be the springboard from which my goal-achieving momentum will take flight. My reasoning for using this particular book: I knew I would need an effective framework to help me get organized, stay on track, and remember that I’m accountable for the results I receive while participating in this challenge — no matter the circumstances I face.

So, there are some major undertakings I want to accomplish (sooner rather than later), and I’m currently working on a list of weekly to-dos to get there — 12 weeks’ worth, to be exact. Each week will consistently focus on these undertakings (overall goals) that I would like to accomplish (or be close to accomplishing) by the end of 2026. By “consistently focus” I mean that I will be laying out the intentional (or “strategic”) actions or tasks I must complete each day of the week to reach the outcomes I’m seeking by the end of my 12-week year.

For sure, this challenge will be a test of discipline, commitment, execution of the plan, and perseverance to push through in spite of obstacles that will undoubtedly make their untimely appearance.

I’m currently in the planning mode, so I don’t have any details to share with you today. I mainly just wanted to give you a heads-up on what Degrees of Maternity will be up to. My hope is that you’ll accompany me on the journey. You know I always need my community. You’ve been the constant encouragement, support, and inspiration, helping me get through my growing pains every step of the way, when it comes to these self-inflicted challenges of mine. And so, I’m spoiled, okay. You’ve set the bar high for being there when I need you. So, don’t leave me hanging now.

The challenge officially starts on Sunday, October 4th, and will extend until the end of 2026. There goes the 12-week year.

My goal is to give you weekly commentary on how the challenge is going: how did things go, did I meet the goals for the week, what were the struggles and the triumphs, etc.? And, I’ll even provide you with some beneficial takeaways from the actual book, The 12 Week Year, that I’m trying to incorporate into my day-to-day.

But, first things first. Next post, I’ll lay out the major goals that I’m working toward. Don’t worry, though. I’m not adding anything new to my plate. The word, “simplify,” is still one of my words of the year, and I’m sticking with it. Really, all I’m trying to do with this challenge is to get more done on the action items I already have in motion but have been procrastinating in fully executing them.

Basically, have you ever been sick and tired of being stuck, running around in circles, going backwards, or going at a snail’s pace in things you want to get accomplished in life? I mean . . . the start of some momentum was visible at one point, and a little progress has actually surfaced. You’re not where you used to be, but you’re not close enough to where you know you should be.

Well, that’s been my story with these goals that are very much doable but have seemed to evade me over and over and over again. But, I’m really tired of the “over again”. I’m over it. Time to get to work, straight away, right now, and in a hurry . . .

Let’s Go!
