Summer Reading Program and Grant Writing Planning

It has been awhile since I visited with you, and I always miss you when I take these extended stints away from my blog home. And, you might be wondering, “Then, why do you take these stints of time away?” I would have to answer, ” . . . for a variety of reasons — some under my control and some not. But, I always look forward to my return, because there’s no place like home.”

It’s like that warm, cozy, homey feeling is waiting for me whenever I step my foot into the doorway. I feel that now . . . as I’m writing this post. I still have my pjs on, my motivational instrumental music (some of the best instrumental soundtracks from popular movies of all times) playing in the background, and a promise to myself that I won’t let anything distract me (even eating breakfast) until I get this blog post done.

I’m in a “feeling like blogging” zone, and I refuse to break it.

Yes family. It’s like that at times.

I’m a firm believer that there are moments when we must do things even when we don’t feel like doing them. Blogging is not one of those things (for me) that I have to push through to do. I love blogging! I’ve just been in a mode where I haven’t been able to get it going.

And, I can’t say that my time away is due to a lack of something to blog or write about. I can do it quite easily, as I ALWAYS have things to say. But, it was more of a figuring out what I needed to concentrate on most at the time.

Lately, that concentrated effort has come in the form of my reading instruction for and mentoring of children. I truly have so much going on in my head about the direction I need to take to be the best cheerleader of these children and an inspirational and motivational advocate for their learning and developmental journeys.

And, as I noted in the last blog post, I’m currently working on planning for the reading program I’ll be conducting for the kiddos this summer. I’m extremely excited about it and looking forward to rolling out the best summer reading program that I’ve ever created. This will be year 3 for me, and I’m determined to keep on the trajectory of making sure my offering gets better and better each year.

I almost thought I would take today to give you a listicle of sorts, displaying all the main components of the program (some of which I’ve given you in my post entitled Summer Reading), but I decided I’d just chat with you a minute since we haven’t visited for some time. I also mentioned the following about a sign-up sheet in this blog post:

“The sign-up sheet will be presented to you in the next blog post, and you are welcome to share it with your friends, family, and online communities. I would love your help in getting the word out.”

(Oops . . . not ready to give you that just yet. Still working out some details on the program particulars. Sorry about that.)

I’m simply taking this time to catch you up on what I’ve currently been and will be working on in the next weeks (or month and a half) until the beginning of June 2026, when I’ll be putting all of the planning into action. And, you haven’t missed much at all. I’ve just been a-plannin’.

I’ll have the listicle and, hopefully, the sign-up sheet for you next time if that’s alright.

The listicle will act as a sneak peek of the full offer to come, which I’ll include — in its entirety — here on this blog in case your child (or a child of someone you know) could benefit from such a transformative learning experience on his or her reading journey.

I also have some grant researching and writing in the works for this summer while I have downtime from providing reading tutoring for the private school that I support during the August through May school year. During that time, I’m looking to put in some quality time on the grant side of things (well, as much quality time as I can muster up, considering I’ll be full blast in “Degrees of Maternity Summer Reading Program” mode).

So, the reading and writing “creative loves” of my life will get a chance to thrive over the summer months, as they do at other times of the year, as well. I look forward to bringing you along for this literacy ride of 2026.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
