I know I’m supposed to be discussing all things tutoring for this challenge, but this blog post is going to deviate a little from the regular “daily challenge” discussion. But, just so I can make sure that I do have something tutoring-related since I’m on the tail end of this “tutoring” challenge, then I’ll say this . . . some of my tutees and mentees received their “prepared with joy and sealed with love” packages in the mail yesterday, and the rest will receive them today.
I mentioned the packages I’d be sending to them in the blog post, entitled Adventures in Tutoring Daily Challenge – Day 28.
And, I’ve had several of the parents text me and tell me how excited their children were to receive their packages and how much they appreciate the contents inside. That’s the kind of stuff that fills me with so much joy. I look forward to bringing something special into the lives of these children and influencing them in such meaningful and positive ways that they’ll probably remember for the rest of their lives.
Wow! I’m getting teary-eyed just typing those powerful words I just typed.
Now, on to my thoughts about the quote from yesterday . . .
The quote I posted in yesterday’s blog post (see at the very end of this post) has been the perfect mantra for what I’ve been touting around in conversation with multiple people (including in conversations with myself) within the last few weeks. The theme has been strong in reality for me, but I know it’s been a source of written and spoken inspiration for others, as well.
It’s the whole idea of owning where you’re at in life and doing something about making it better than it currently is going forward.
Every day we’re given is a moment in time to do something with. We get to choose what that “something” is. And, the choice is a blessing and it’s sometimes a curse, depending on the choice we make.
Those new days we wake up to and have an opportunity to do something with are to be met with extreme gratitude and relief. It means that we truly have a chance to actively participate in manipulating our lives for the better or for the worse.
Yes, we do have some control over what our lives look like.
Personally, I’m going to always opt “for the better” (over the worse), although I can be misdirected in my action-taking at times and set myself back on the path of positive progression. Nevertheless, it doesn’t take me long to dust off the dirt, contemplate my actions, redirect my thoughts for progress, and then let the forward-thinking actions follow.
Each new day gives you that.
That opportunity to look at what moves the needle forward for you and takes you someplace you don’t have to regret going toward.
These days, I know where my focus should be. Some days my focus is there — in its rightful place where it belongs. And other times, the focus is misplaced and takes me to foreign places that are going to stop the change that my life so desperately needs to make.
But, each new day brings a rebirth of hope for the better, the opportunity to do better, and a responsibility to be better.
A new day can do all of that.
So, I choose to be thankful for each new day I get. Because while I have breath in my body to experience that new day, it’s another chance to make the adjustments I need to make to have the kind of life I want to live.
Continuous improvement. Ya gotta love it!
