This morning, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting with my other three tutees for the first time this academic year. It was awesome!
In each session, we simply spent it chitchatting — getting to know each other for the one child who is new to me and my tutoring services and playing catch-up with the elementary schooler and middle schooler who are returning to me for another year.
NO WORK ALLOWED! on the first day of tutoring. That’s always been my process for getting acclimated to a new tutoring adventure with my students.
Building a rapport with the children is necessary in developing trust, comfortability, a willing to cooperate, and a genuine liking for us educators.
So, there’s no way on earth that I would expect myself to cut right to the chase with all the work stuff before addressing the importance of my tutees as the precious little human beings they are, explaining what they should expect from me, detailing what I expect from them, and determining how we will work together to set a successful stage for them to perform their BEST reading work EVER!
Then, of course, I have to throw a little game activity in the mix to put the proverbial cherry on the top of our no-pressure/no-work first day.
And since today was a low-key day for them. I think I’ll test those same waters on this blogging side and low-key call it quits for this blog post.
Until next time . . .
