Adventures in Tutoring Daily Challenge – Day 13

I had less than 4 hours of sleep last night, but this is one of those days that my adrenaline, excitement, and sheer enthusiasm is catapulting me up to Cloud 9. Why? You might ask. And, I’d be asking too, because a middle-aged individual (like myself) should be dragging right now. I’m not, though. I think the way I’m feeling inside could possibly take me through the mundane grocery shopping that I need to do for two different households after I finish this blog post. (I kind of dislike grocery shopping with a passion. “Hate” is just too strong of a word to use here.)

Okay, for the “Why?”

Well, I just got done meeting with three of my six tutees this morning — children who attend my beautiful friend’s academy. And, I am absolutely thrilled with how the first day went with my new crew for this academic year! We’re going to have a great school year together.

Just so you know: today is an example of how one can know if he or she is in the right place at the right time doing the right thing. I mean . . . sleep deprivation can’t even dampen the sheer joy in a scenario like that.

I count it an extremely high privilege to get to work with young people. There’s something about their youthful energy that keeps me inspired to continue to grow, learn, and be positively impactful just like they are to me.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There are challenges that present themselves anytime you’re dealing with human beings on any level — even with children. But, I’ve been so very fortunate to learn from them EVERYTIME — even in the most trying of situations. And, learning from children just helps me become even better at serving them.

But, I work from a place of true love for what I do. To assist children in their personal and professional (academic if still in primary and secondary school) development is my purpose-driven calling.

And, when you function in a space where you do something you enjoy, something you’re good at, and something that is highly-sought after by others, you’re in that perfect trifecta of mission-driven work that can’t help but to bring about the desired outcomes you’re looking for.

I don’t know about you, but that’s where I’d like to reside at for the majority of how I spend my time. I’d like to reside where . . .

Doing the work I enjoy brings about the results that others desire.

I actually had in mind to write something else in today’s blog post, but lookie here. I told you that these posts will be coming to you fresh off the dome. You’re getting the words that are naturally coming out on this page about how I’m feeling after getting to visit with such awesome children this morning. One of them I’ve already worked with in the past, but the other two are newbies and were absolutely precious!

And, I look so forward to visiting with my other three tutees on Wednesday.

Oh, and just so you know, I tutor for the academy, but I also have openings available for tutoring for individual families who are looking for a reading tutor for their elementary and/or middle school learner. Just wanted to put that out there in case there was any confusion about my role(s). And for more information on what the tutoring experience through Degrees of Maternity would look like, you can get a sneak peek by going to my “Tutoring Services” page on this blog site.

Now that I’m back into the swing of things, I feel pretty full. Full of joy. Full of hope. Full of inspiration. Full of expectation. Full of purpose. And, I’m quite certain that this academic year will be full of adventures that I can add to my list. Stay tuned for all the fresh insights all have for you throughout 2025-2026.

And, off to the grocery store I go . . .
