Well, I’m excited to kick off this new challenge by expressing how much joy I get in tutoring young people. I would have never imagined all those years ago, waaaaaaayyyyy back when I was a child loving to read . . . reading for the enjoyment of it . . . and actually just loving all things literacy (the writing component, as well) that I would be using reading and writing in professional places and spaces I navigate today.
So, I consider it a high privilege to work in a professional capacity where I’m utilizing skills that I literally love to engage in. And when I really ponder over it, it’s so incredible working within and around skills that are so vital to daily living as well as the progression of quality living in one’s life.
Literacy is and enhances communication, which is key to human existence. How cool is it to gravitate toward something so fundamentally powerful — both in its verbal and written form?
Then, I look at how I’m able to tie literacy and communication with working on different levels with children as a tutor and mentor (coach, cheerleader, BEST ADVOCATE EVER!) — equally important parts of my mission-driven purpose.
When I was a child, I didn’t understand the importance of being literate. But now, as an adult, I understand how very, very important it is and how the lack of being literate has created a crisis not only in our adult populations, but in large numbers of our public school youth (speaking specifically in the United States). Children, today, are experiencing crisis-level deficits in reading readiness.
So, if I can play a part (no matter how small the one-woman role runs) in reaching as many children as I can with assistance to help decrease reading skills gaps, I’m going to do my best to be in it to win it for these young learners. Again, I count this educational opportunity to work with children as a high privilege. And, I know how life-enhancing mastering the skill of reading will be in their now and their futures.
Now, speaking about this challenge, all I can say is that blogging about something you’re passionate about is a blogger’s dream job. So, I’m anticipating that it should be pretty effortless in keeping up with the increased frequency of blogging Monday through Thursday for the remainder of 2025, regarding reading tutoring and working with children in an educational capacity. At least, that’s what I’m thinking right now. Check out my introduction to the challenge in My Next Blogging Move . . . Daily Challenges Ahead!
Of course, I know that LIFE can come along and derail the best-laid plans, but I’m not going to start out the gate dwelling on that. I need to get some of this bottled-up “Adventures in Tutoring” out and quickly. It’s been contained for far too long, so this blogging challenge will allow me some releasing of the content build-up. Whoo! Hoo!
I think this would be a good time for me to close out this post with some housekeeping items. I have more to say on my adventures, but it can wait until the next time.
On to the boring (but important-to-know) stuff . . .
Just so you know, I don’t have a set time of the day that these posts will find their way home. It could be morning. It could be evening. I’m giving myself some grace with the timing because I know I have some events coming up this week and throughout next month that will make putting a time to delivery of posts impossible to schedule at the same time each day. So, no set time.
Information presented will not be in any special order. As talking points come to me, I’ll present them to you. Straight off the dome. Raw and unscripted.
Furthermore, I’m not putting a required “number of words” per blog post to post. No, not at all. Why would I do that? And, who’s counting, anyway? The whole challenge experience kind of loses its “raw and unscripted” flavor if I do that. So, no. I’ll probably have some long posts, but you may come here and see some posts that fit in less than a handful of paragraphs. Who knows? We’ll just have to see where the adventures in tutoring take us.
And, I’m going to be very conversational. I usually am, but I have a feeling the laid-back vibe will be more heightened in this challenge. Not trying to be grammatically correct, even though I like all that boring, technical stuff and don’t mind teaching it to the kiddos. But for this challenge, “Nah.” I’m going to do the informal stuff.
And hopefully, you’ll find something in these posts to be REAL and of benefit to you — even if you don’t professionally work with children in an educational setting.
If you mentor children or have children or have children relatives or deal with children in any capacity, you’ll find something in this blogging challenge to take in, ponder over, do something with, learn from, and/or relate to. I’m certain of it.
So, come back if you can. My plan is to do well with this challenge. Believe me, I wouldn’t have taken it on if I didn’t think I could do it. Public humiliation isn’t my thing. Hee. Hee.
Looking forward to Day 2! Tutoring adventures comin’ up . . .
