Special Edition of The Literacy Corner – Update #3

Well, THE ANTS ARE BACK! You know, we’re in the springtime groove; and everything that was dormant and seemingly quiet in nature is making its existence known. That includes the ants. Now, the awakening of the ants (in my perspective, anyway) hasn’t brought in the fondest of springtime memories. The ants and I have a tumultuous history . . . that we won’t go deep into for this discussion. But, let’s just say that our relationship has been a rollercoaster of sorts.

I mean . . . I’m talking about unwelcomed critter visitors, who like to forcefully invite themselves into my home — not through the front door even, but through spaces and places that they can stealthfully shimmy their way up, down, and through (window sills and baseboards are their entry of choice over here). And, I have to give them credit. They’re pretty stealth when it comes to their military-like maneuvers that get them into covert territory.

It’s NO HOLDS BARRED up in here!

But, I ain’t mad, though. (Well yes, I do get a little mad.) But after getting mad, I have to stop and think about the inner and outer makeup of the ant . . . their life cycles . . . and their overall life goals. They’re simply and unapologetically doing what they were created to do. Work for what they want. Work to live and thrive. The ants have jobs to do, roles to carry out, and households to invade; and they’re not playing around. They execute on their plan.

Okay, I almost hate to admit this, but the WORRISOME ANTS . . . well, they’re my frienemies — my goaling heroes. I’m telling you right now that our tumultuous relationship is one of love and hate.

But, I’m going to try to keep it on the lovely aspects going forth, BECAUSE . . .

THERE ARE LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE ANT.

Their onslaught of my home this week wasn’t due to being unaware of their cyclical tactics. I know them by now. I mean . . . no matter what, you can bank on those little critters coming back for your territory every time. And, if you don’t have your defenses up well enough, they WILL figure out a way into your home and they WILL take over with a vengeance. They are uniform, they are organized, they plan, and they are relentless — persevering through all types of circumstances. They stick to the plan . . . no matter what. That’s the agenda. And, to stop their agenda, you literally have to create impenetrable obstacles to halt their goaling progress.

And, I already know all this, and I also know the approximate time they like to strike. I just wasn’t prepared and ready for them like I should have been. So, I had to act in a reactive mode to taper their damage. But, it’s all good. I had something for them (be it after the fact). Triumphantly, I stabilized and stayed their forceful efforts. In fact, I don’t think the reinforcements will venture to enter this homestead this spring season.

And while I don’t like the ants’ efforts to take over this woman’s house, I do admire their mentality (if I can say “mentality”). They go after what they want with a work ethic like no other, don’t excuse themselves from the race when things get hard, and function in a strategically organized manner to get their jobs done. Oh yeah, they also cooperate with each other, teaming up and supporting one another to get their goaling got.

So, I can’t be entirely mad at ’em. They’re only doing what I dream of doing and doing on a consistent basis. GETTING WORK DONE and GETTING THE GOALS GOT!

That’s where I’m at right now in my personal journey and in my entrepreneurial journey. And, I imagine most of us are feeling those same sentiments in whatever life journeys we’re going through. We want to achieve the things that matter most to us as well as the people we can positively affect with the actions we take.

Take, for instance, my adventures in tutoring. I LOVE THEM ALL — the good, the bad, AND the ugly. I welcome them, because all of my tutoring adventures (experiences) are making me a better tutor in every respect. And for sure, the challenges involved have really been my best tutoring teachers thus far.

I really feel like I’ve learned a lot in this first school year of my tutoring journey. It’s hard to believe that we’re in the winding down phase of it, as most schools will end their school-year runs in May and June. And, we’re currently sitting at the end of March. Well, time’s gonna fly from here on out.

But my experiences this school year have been golden and ripe for the knowledge-building pickin’. And with this acquired knowledge, I’ve been able to open up my services in the online private tutoring sector. Yes, I’m taking my tutoring knowledge and applying it to my own business goals. Actually, my private tutoring adventures started this month. And, that’s the update for the month. I’m now a private tutor with my own tutoring services having debuted this very month. Whoo hoo!

So, you better believe I’m thinking about the ants a whole lot right about now. They have become my inspiration to keep it moving for all the tutoring goals I plan on implementing now and into the summer when I open up availability for one-on-one tutoring over the summer break for students who could either use a jumpstart to reading before the next school year begins or could use some refresher or enrichment work to get and keep them in prime reading shape.

In conclusion, I guess I’ll end today’s discussion and update with the fact that I may not like the personal inconvenience that ants bring to my homestead when uninvited; but all the while, I’ve got to admit that I like their “goaling” style.
