Back to Blogging

Well, it’s the last day in November and I thought I’d better get in touch with you. And, I must say that it feels good to be back in the blogging saddle once again. Writing for this blog is just something that I will always come back to no matter how much time I’ve been away. Because . . . there’s no place like home. So, I just want to take this time to get reacclimated to my slightly different but familiar surroundings.

“Slightly different” because I noticed some subtle changes to my blog when I returned to visit it. Changes I didn’t initiate on my own. So, I’ve had to tweak a couple of things to make sure my online abode was restored to its former homeyness. And after handling that business, it was time to start writing again.

I missed you while I was gone. (I hope you can say the same about me.) I truly did miss my time of written connection with you. You know how you feel when there’s a void in your life that can only be satisfyingly filled with that one perfect thing. Like . . . a substitute just won’t do. You have to have the real thing, and you won’t be satisfied until you get it. Well, that’s what being away from this blog was like for me.

I had to come back and fill that void that only writing freely on this blog can satisfy. And so, I’m back and thoroughly enjoying this finger-to-keyboard action I’m participating in right now. It feels natural. It feels right.

But, you know what else feels natural and right in my life right now?

TEACHING CHILDREN TO READ!

I absolutely love it! And since the beginning of my adult years, working with children in some type of educational capacity has ALWAYS been somewhere in the back of my mind, brewing there — waiting to percolate and make itself known. I just didn’t know in what form or fashion it would reveal itself.

So, it appears the teacher in me decided to come out in the form of an online reading tutor. Certified Reading Tutor to be exact. Yes, I finished all of my training, and I am officially certified to teach children to read. And let’s just say that I’m fully immersed in the experience right now with 15 students and counting. Woo! Hoo! Honestly, if you know just a little about me and this blog, then you know this professional undertaking is JUST SO ME — not a stretch at all. I’m just falling in line with my rightful placement in life.

I love working children (always have – always will), I love educating (hint: it’s a part of what I do at Degrees of Maternity), and I love reading and writing (I just plain love literacy instruction — it’s my love language). So, reading tutoring fits like a glove on me. It’s quite fulfilling to pause and think about the fact that, in addition to blogging, I’m doing something else that will impact the lives of others in a most positive way. My mission . . . my purpose.

Getting to experience the journey of children thriving in their reading development is something that feels incredibly meaningful and offers an opportunity for me to assist a young learner in his or her educational empowerment. Hey, I’m totally here for it.

But please know this: while I’m having a blast educating children, I’m planning on doing some educating over here at the home base. Writing therapy subject matter will continue, but I’ll be making room for adventures in reading as well.ย  Remember . . . my two loves (reading and writing)? I can’t leave either one by the wayside. Both will be front and center and very active on this blog.

Boy oh Boy, did I already mention how much I missed visiting with you?

Yes, I know I did. Because I REALLY DID! But I’m remedying that right now. So, here’s the deal:

I’ll be coming at ‘ya with content on Wednesdays or Thursdays each week. I’m leaving some flexibility here. Why? Well, Wednesdays might call out to me more than Thursdays on any given week. You just never know. But, I plan on making my presence known around these here parts — pretty regularly, pretty weekly.

So, get ready for a new batch of content coming out the rest of this year and beyond.ย  See you in the next post, because I’m . . . back to business, my friend!

  1. Talking about being behind. Boy, am I with you on that. I’m playing major catch up from my stent away and just in general. I’ve never been caught up since I started blogging, if truth be told. And thank you for the warm welcome back, Kat. Yes, I truly missed my time away from blogging. I wanted to keep it going so badly. But, I needed that time to get myself into the groove of teaching little ones. It’s so rewarding, too. And honestly, it surprises me that I didn’t latch onto this opportunity earlier. But, life’s a journey and I’m okay with the timing that it took to get me here. The timing turned out to be perfect after all. And, I definitely pray that I can make an impactful dent in the national crisis we have with needing to close the reading gaps that children in this country are experiencing. This is one of those meaningful callings that I plan on sticking with for a very long time.

  2. Oh, wow, I’m really behind! I just discovered your post in my inbox while I’ve been trying to reply to all the comments I’ve had building up. A belated welcome back to blogging! I certainly missed you and your posts. It just wasn’t quite the same week after week without your posts, so I’m very glad you’re back. And I love, love, love that you’re a reading tutor! It’s just so perfect for you, and I love reading about the work you’re doing with your kids. Reading is so important, and it’s been so disappointing to see reading scores slipping over the past couple of years. I know you’re making a huge impact!
