Writing Therapy: A Short Poem about the Precious Things in Life

Hey there, I’m back again today

With the opposite of prose.

No conducting business as usual

Just flowing, I suppose.

ย

Flowing with “my feels,”

And, I’m feeling fairly great.

Just needing to dial back a bit

For a well-earned mental break.

ย

You know how that may go sometimes —

Some time to sit and wonder.

To think, and reflect, and contemplate —

To chill and just plain ponder.

ย

I’m on my couch and looking out

At the rain that’s feeding life.

And moments like these bring me back

To remembering what’s precious in life.

ย

You, yourself, and those you love

Must top the “Most Precious” list.

And as for me, the Creator of all things

Can NEVER be dismissed!

ย

So, I say to take each day you get

And see it as a gift.

To cherish, to cultivate, and to nurture

Like those on your “Most Precious” list.

Take care of you and yours and have a most splendid rest of your week and week-to-come.

  1. I do know how to put a smile , now that encourages me to continue doing that Jana because hey smile now whilst you still have teeth๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚before you know it you are an old woman with no teeth now that’s a shame.

Anyways, I appreciate your comment and as usual your blog posts are inspiring. This one actually is all about taking a break and as you said one needs to unload and unpack before rushing into something that can be disastrous in the end๐Ÿ™

  2. Mthobisi – I pray your week has been a blessed one. Yes. Sometimes, we have to steal those brief, quiet moments and just be still. It’s truly important, you know? Always being on the go, go, go can’t be healthy for any one individual. We have to figure out how to slow down, unload/unpack, and just let ourselves breath mentally and physically. So, I try to steal a few moments here and there, because as a human being, I just have to. (And you do, too.) We have to find time for ourselves amongst everything else. Thanks so much for your wonderful comment as usual. You sure do know how to put a smile on my face and a little extra pep in my step. Have a wonderful weekend, Mthobisi.

  3. Breathtaking, entertaining, inspiring and insightful poem Jana Williams. My friend you are a multi talented and I am impressed that you can write poetry so good like a pro๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Also, I like the message behind this poem and that is value your precious life which is far more key and worthwhile than rubies, gold and money. I like the part when you talk of sitting, to sit and wonder, to think, reflect and contemplate. Now that got to me because in this busy world where we are constantly bombarded with a bunch of tasks and social media consuming our precious time, one rarely gets the time to sit and wonder, to think, reflect and contemplate.

This poem is a reminder that as we go through life, let us sit and take a few breaths, pause and appreciate life even the small things๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ™
