“Write What’s on Your Heart” Day

Have you heard of Write What’s on Your Heart Day? And, did you know that it’s today?

I’m guessing your answers are “No” and “No.”

And that would make perfect sense, because I actually just made it up. Hee. Hee.

(Well, at least I think I made it up. You never know these days. It seems like all the good ideas are already got before you can get to them.)

With the whole there’s nothing new under the sun fundamental truth, and all.

But, I’m in a festive mood and I’m going with the idea that I just invented a writing holiday. Just because. No specific reason intended.

I figured we were due for a “no holds barred” writing celebration, where heartfelt writing is the theme of our blogging party.

No purpose-driven topics or guided prompting or identity-refining processes are to be had on this honorary day.

We’re just going to write what we want.

Okay?

As a matter of fact, I’m having a great time writing these short sentences here and just taking you through some blog content of no particular purpose — just writing to be writing, I guess.

I figure I’ll just let my fingers do what they want and see what message comes from them.

Personally, I had a blogging agenda of continuing on the path of tracking behaviors (through writing) when it comes to identity refinement or even getting into tips on how to realistically accomplish the steps in your life-improvement processes.

Or, I could have started a multi-part discussion on journaling as writing therapy (which, to tell you the truth, I think I’m actually doing right now).

(It’s funny how having no agenda creates an agenda.)

Now, I could be wrong, but doesn’t it appear that I’m just freestyle journaling about whatever’s in the old heart (old noggin’) at the moment?

Yes indeed.

I do believe this is what freedom in journaling may look like (for me, anyway).

And, that’s the great thing about journaling on your own terms. It looks different for each person.

However, it serves a universal purpose by offering each individual (who utilizes it) a healthy outlet to simply be and to express without parameters.

Freeing, yes. But even more so, HEALING at its core.

I can’t adequately explain the mechanics or the logistics of why journaling unapologetically positively affects our mental and physical well-being.

IT JUST DOES.

And it does so in such a low-key way. Free-style journaling is a pretty low-maintenance skill that takes no major effort to do. You just do YOU — in writing.

You let the writing FLY. Let it go where the mind (heart) takes the fingers to write or type. And then, you get to not only go back and read your masterpiece of the heart, but you get to experience the aftermath of feel-goods that come your way simply by putting down some words on a page — as you think (feel) them.

Well. Now that I was able to get all of that out, I do believe I’m good for my journaling writing session for today. Or, maybe I should say I FEEL GOOD after releasing my expressions from the heart.

And it was empowering and uplifting to get everything out that I needed to — without coming with a pre-planned agenda.

I decided to take a chance and just free flow blog to see where the words would take me and you.

And since my words took me to journaling for this go-around, then I imagine that’s where my pre-planned agenda for next blog post will pick up and continue with.

Yes, with the topic of JOURNALING.

Unless . . .

I decide to freestyle with my writing again. Do the writing with no parameters, boundaries, or agendas attached. Cash in on another “Write What’s on Your Heart” Day. We’ll see.

Guess neither you nor I will know until we come back next time.

Until then . . .

Heartfelt Writing

  1. Hey there Mthobisi. Yes, I definitely want to encourage you, as a fellow writer, to keep writing your ebooks. We continue to grow in our skills and have opportunities to connect with others when we do so. And I especially appreciated learning more about you in the “About the Author” section. I can tell that the “craft of writing” is one that you are skillfully honing and enjoying at the same time. I’m doing the same and loving every minute of it. Happy Birthday month as well. I pray it’s a blessed one. And, I am a firm believer that hard work always pays off. So, keep it up, my friend.

  3. Hey there Mthobisi – I just downloaded your book. Wow! Give me some time to read it though. It looks like a worthwhile 17-page read. I’ll be sharing it with my husband, for sure. I love seeing young people enjoy the gift of writing. I do, truly, consider it a privilege to be in this space. And, I love the fact that I get to write what I feel passionate about, which is hopefully what others can relate to and appreciate, as well. So yes, I love being able to “let it fly.” I believe you do, too. Have a most blessed day.

  4. Phil – you are so funny. My fingers do some funny things sometimes. And I literally don’t know exactly where they’re going to take me. Although, I must admit that my fingers are only following what my mind is instructing them to do. So, the fingers take orders from the higher-ups. Hee. Hee. And, my fingers make mistakes too. Only because my mind is trying to work out what’s going on in there. On the other hand, “journaling” can be a noun or a verb, depending on how you use it in a sentence. And to answer your question about the meaning of the word, you’re just going to have to check out today’s blog post to find out the answer. (Like how I gave you more work to answer your question?) Really, it’s just a way to get you to check out Laura’s blog post all-about-journaling. She explains it so much better than I ever could. Oh, and Happy Writing! 248 pages is dedication. Keep it up, my friend.

  5. Outstanding blog post Jana Williams. Again, you write very clearly and the message of the blog is easy to contemplate and that is to “Just let the hands do the writing and let it fly”.

Also, today is my first time I have heard of this ” Write what’s on your heart day” and since you made it up it should be a national holiday in your country, just kidding😂. Moreover, I like writing what’s on my heart and when you do you are able to let your true self shine, you are like a Freelancer or an Aspiring journalist except here you don’t have to abide to any principles or procedures journalists who work for publishing companies need to follow, as you said, here your writing is done without imposing any parameters or boundaries. Furthermore, when you let the hands do what they want and see where the message flows you become aware of your thoughts and skills in writing, as for me when I write my fashion blogs I just write spontaneously sometimes and oh by the way, kindly check my fashion book in my blogs it’s new and enticing to read titled “6 OUTFITS THAT KEEP MEN SAFE FROM THE COLD DAYS”🔥💯

  6. Jana,
You have been coming up with some more sentences that are worthy of comment.
The one that goes: “I figure I will just let my fingers do what they want and see what message comes from them.” is of interest.
I am sitting here writing this wondering which part of my body is in control of the words ending up on my screen. My fingers seem to be doing the work, and maybe the thinking, but then, I have my doubts. If you have managed to let those fingers of yours write by themselves, can you please let me know what the secret is? Mine keep making mistakes!
One other thing. What is the word “Journaling” all about? It is not in my dictionary! I assume it is the act of being a journalist. In other words, a verb. Regardless of the meaning of this particular word, you do make me think, even if I do come to the wrong conclusions.
Still editing my book, by the way. I am now up to page 248, and I am still not sure which way to publish the same yet, but that will eventually be decided.
    All the best.
    Regards, Phil
