Conquering the Creative Work-Life Balance

Blogging about work-life balance . . . coming right up . . . in next week’s commentary. Yes, I’m afraid it’s time to talk about work-life balance again. And since I decided to take it easy today, I’m not going to go all hard core in this blog post. I’m simply going to give you a quick glimpse into what you’re going to see in the next few Tuesday posts, which will still be a part of the “Creative Entrepreneurship Basics” series but with an added bonus of throwing in some personal life discussion as well.

And just so you know — the topic of work-life balance never drops off, dies off, gets old, or becomes irrelevant. It’ll always play a starring role in your life, because the struggle is real, folks.  And no, I didn’t say that I have it all figured out. As a matter of fact, I’m currently working on work-life balance at this very moment. Go figure.

But what’s so cool about the whole thing is that I’ve pinpointed what’s fueling this need to balance things out a smidge. Well, I just came off of winter break and my son’s middle school second semester started the middle of last week. And with that start came a change in his school setting, which has set off a chain reaction requiring a whole change of my daily/weekly schedule.

Truthfully speaking, I needed an update to my schedule anyway. But, the start of the new school semester created an urgency to do something right about now. Not to mention, coming off of a two-week hiatus from the regular routine put me in somewhat of a lull. So, I ended up participating in a watered down version of a goal setting challenge to keep me from going completely MIA on the work front during that two-week period.

And I’m still finding that goal-setting is the only thing that’s going to kick me into productive gear this first quarter of 2022.  So, while the two-week end-of-2021 goal challenge ended already, the Degrees of Maternity and personal life of Jana goal-setting and goal-achievement initiatives are looking to be ongoing for the unforeseeable future.

(If you’d like to check out the final results of the goal challenge I just completed, you can read about them here.)

And then there’s some pretty hefty household projects that I absolutely HAVE to give some attention to. I put them off for as long as I could; and now, they’ve come knocking at my door. They refuse to stop knocking until I answer the door. And once I answer the door, they’re going to expect me to let them in and entertain them as the host of invited guests should willingly do.

So, I’m hurriedly trying to work myself into a forced frenzy of a goal-setting mentality, organization/efficiency mode, and worker ant work ethic — all at the same time. I absolutely need all three components in order to meet all of my competing priorities (work and life) head on and with a structured and doable modus operandi for GETTING THINGS DONE.

Can it be done?

Can this Creative figure out how to manage all the work-related tasks with all of the life-related tasks to propel both worlds (work and life) forward in a positive direction? Well, I’m quite certain that I’m going to try my best to do so. And as I’m trying my best, I plan on sharing my work-life journey with you all in hopes that it will give you some beneficial tips on strategies to help you iron out your own balance issues.

To be continued . . .
