As you can probably tell by the title of this blog post, I’m not going to deliver regular programming for today. The next “Blogging Truths Be Told” installment is going to be put on hold today and for at least the next couple of Fridays to make room for some goal setting and goal achievement.
It’s about time, too. I have so many idea mulling around in my head, but I need to take those ideas and actually bring them to life, or they’ll just continue to keep swimming around up there and bugging me until I do something about them.
And for a couple of the more recent “Creative Entrepreneurship Basics” installments, I devoted some discussions to the importance of planning and putting in some action after the planning. You can check them out here and here.
So, I’m actually going to put my advice into practical use on myself and get to moving on some goals that I want to get accomplished in the next two weeks. While winter break is going on in my household, I want to take opportunity to get some much needed work done. And a good old-fashioned goal challenge is what’s in store. Lately, it seems as if these challenges are my go-tos for getting items on my to-do lists checked off.
And here’s the thing: I don’t want this two-week challenge to take up my life. It’s just simply going to be incorporated into my day, not create any added pressures. Therefore, I’ve decided not to do a daily recap of the goal tasks I’ve completed each day on this blog (like in times past). No, I won’t bore you with all the mundane details down in the weeds. I’ll just give you some of the high-level stuff, so you can know that I’m GETTING WORK DONE.
I’m still thinking it through though. But what I’d like to do is to report my weekly progress for the next two Fridays and let you know what progress I’m making toward goal achievement. By having you hold me accountable for the items below, I will have no choice but to make some headway during this challenge. The following are some of the goals I intend to work on:
- Record my audio book for Playground Instruction for the Growing Adult.
- Get my audio book out on my Teachers Pay Teachers and Etsy stores.
- Get the audio book prepped and submitted to Audible/ACX.
- Get 10 new products up on my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
- Read The Ultimate Blogger’s SEO Blueprint ebook.
- Review the updated course material for the Printables by Number course that I purchased.
- Start planning for my updated blog site. (Really wanted to have my blog site updated before the end of 2021, but it looks like this goal will take place in 2022 sometime – hopefully in January.)
I think the items above are doable (without stretching me too thin) in this next two-week period. And since all of the task goals with the exceptions of #2 and #6 will take more than one day to complete, I’ll probably just devote time to working a little bit on the other five of them each working day of the challenge week (Monday through Friday). I’ll also keep things flexible by working on the items in the order that organically makes the most sense.
So, I have my work cut out for me; but it’s time to bring my ideas into fruition. Getting my audio book is definitely going to be my number 1 priority out of the 7 options. And then, I think my Teachers Pay Teachers products are next on the priority list. Really, what I’m looking to get accomplished in the next two weeks is to reduce wasteful busywork and gear up on work that’s going to move Degrees of Maternity forward.
And on that note, I’ll plan on following up with you next Friday on goal progress that I’ve made from December 20th through the 24th.

Phil – as I read this comment, it so reminds me of the fact that I don’t know what in the world I was thinking with this goal challenge thing. Although the list isn’t long, it’s pretty involved. And I’ve been such a sluggard lately, that it amazes me that I set such an ambitious goal within such a short period of time. But, I’m going for it and I’ll see where I end up. A couple of the goals can be knocked out fairly quickly, but the others will take a daily grind to get done in the next couple of weeks. Regardless of where I end up, I’ll be sure to check in with the good, the bad, and the ugly details. I’m hoping that I can report more of the good stuff than anything else. I’m building some flexibility into the plan and plan on completing all of these goals even if I run past the 2-week mark. Thanks for keeping me honest, Phil. I definitely need Accountability Partners like you that I know will be following up to see if I back up my words with some actions.

It is good to see that you have set yourself a few (many) goals that you want to achieve over the next couple of weeks. While the list seems fairly long, the question is, “Are you being realistic?”. I fully agree, without goals there is not only no achievement, there is no sense of achievement, which is probably more important. I will not try and hold you to your ambitious target, you can just let us all know in a couple of weeks whether you have succeeded or not. What I will hold you to is your honesty on the subject, although I have no way of checking that!
I have set myself a few goals, although I am not game enough to publish them Knowing me, I will find a good valid reason for not completing them. Are well, the “The best-laid plans of mice and men” – we can thank Robert Burns for that one. You can look that one up if you like!
Keep those ideas coming!!!!
Regards, Phil
