Day 10: Creative Movement 30-Day Challenge

Online Store

Day 10 of the 30-Day Challenge: Creative Movement:

Task: To add the rest of my digital printable bundles (only) to my WordPress store.

Reason for Task: I already started a WordPress store with the capabilities I currently have on WordPress. The “Pay with PayPal” block allows me to add a payment button to my site, providing customers with the opportunity to purchase Degrees of Maternity digital products in a simple payments format.

However, with the upgrading of my blog site that I’ve planned for this summer, I have every intention of making the shop a full-fledged store front, where full checkout (including paying with a credit card separate from PayPal) and shipping capabilities can be experienced by shoppers. There is no shipping function associated with the “Pay with PayPal” block (that I’m aware of, anyway, through my limited research).

Anyway, for today’s task, I decided to simply upload the rest of my digital product bundles to the current store to give some continuity to what I’ve already started. But with my intention to upgrade my status with WordPress to the next level, I’ll be eligible to utilize WooCommerce, an e-commerce plug-in for WordPress that will allow full-functioning capabilities designed for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems.

My goal will be to upload all of the product offerings I currently have on my Etsy shop to WooCommerce once the upgrade to my blog site takes place. That way, I’ll have another store available to those potential shoppers who may not necessarily frequent Etsy but may be regular visitors to WordPress sites.

Duration of Task: This task was completed well within a day’s work. It only took a matter of minutes to update the WordPress store with the product bundles as well as conduct the research on WooCommerce.

Outcome of Task: Well, my to-do list, prior to the “Creative Movement” 30-day challenge, included adding more products to the WordPress store. So, I’m just in line with what I’d already set out to do. However, I originally had every intention of adding more products to the store but recently realized that I’d be doing busywork that I’d eventually undo once I upgrade to WordPress’ business plan. So, I decided to add the rest of my digital bundles and stop at that, knowing I have a better store set-up in mind in the very near future (hopefully).

As far as the online store research goes, I’m not a researcher by nature. So, I expected to find today’s task to be a little bit tedious. However, I actually enjoyed researching the e-commerce options available on WordPress, as my heartstrings are already being tugged and leading me to goals of upgrading and expanding options on the Degrees of Maternity blog site anyway. So, I was “all in” for this activity.

Once I’m actually ready to act on the research, it’s going to take some concentrated work effort. That’s for sure. But, I’m up for the challenge. And although I’m not entirely sure that the actual upgrades with the addition of WooCommerce will take place during the 30-day challenge, I’m hopeful that this goal will be something I’m able to accomplish before the end of June. No promises, but high hopes.

Practical Application of Day 10 for Your Life: Make sure that you’re doing work that’s going to get you further down the road toward your goal destination (not engage in activities that cause you to simply spin your wheels with no real progress or results). We only have a limited amount of time each day to GET THINGS DONE, so use your time wisely and be as efficiently productive as you can possibly be in the time allotted. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that a mind is a terrible thing to waste (which is oh-so true), but time is also a terrible thing to waste. As I’ve stated in times past, once you spend time (whether frivolously or advantageously), it’s spent and you can’t get it back. So, do the best you can with what you’re given. Time well spent goes a long way.
