Well, I finally finished up all of the Etsy updates that I wanted to make to my shop at this point and time. I have some more updates to product offerings that I want to complete for this challenge, but I’ll be saving them for a later date. And the time it took me to finish up on this 3 1/2 day challenge extended into the additional day longer than I anticipated. Go figure. Furthermore, I didn’t really have much time to work on the brand-new task in day 6. However, I was able to start it at least. So, I still feel somewhat accomplished. This new goal is a 2-parter and will involve more time than what one day can provide.
Now would be a good time to go ahead and move into the particulars of day 6. And here we go.
Day 6 of the 30-Day Challenge: Creative Movement:
Task: to create a promotional packet (somewhat similar to a “media kit” used by social media influencers to promote their brands and to attract brand deals).
Reason for Task: Here’s a task that I’m quite excited to participate in — which is actually surprising since it involves some marketing effort. And although marketing isn’t my favorite subject in the school for the creative-in-progress, I’m steadily working on improving in this area nonetheless. And to that effect, I’ve listed today’s goal as a must-do for completion early on in the 30-day challenge. I have a certain deadline that I’m trying to meet and find it necessary to have this goal wrapped up before my son’s last day of school for this year, which is on May 25th. (In tomorrow’s post, I’ll go into detail on why this time to completion is critical for my promotional packets.)
But for now, just know that I have some prospective local entities of the child education variety that I’d like to partner with. And I’d like to have my promotional packets ready to provide to them so they’ll have a professional portfolio of my creative work from the inception of Degrees of Maternity.
Now, my makeshift “media kit” is a Degrees of Maternity original. I’m in no way saying that I have any mastery-level expertise when it comes to what pieces of my business information I should provide to these prospective clients of mine. But with a little YouTube guidance and some common sense, I’ve been able to identify the promotional pieces that would be most beneficial to a professional organization that wants to know what Degrees of Maternity is all about. The packets will include:
- An introduction letter, discussing a brief history of Degrees of Maternity, the platforms I’m active on, the products and services I provide, the target audience that I serve, and the mission behind Degrees of Maternity
- A couple of business cards (all the essential contact info for all Degrees of Maternity platforms will be located here)
- A flyer, promoting my first self-published book, Playground Instruction for the Growing Adult
- Three separate fliers, promoting the products I carry on my Etsy shop
- A sampling of one of the series for my reading and writing bundles (journal cover, journal page inserts, bookmarks, and doorknob hangers included) for children (printed out on cardstock)
- A “thank you” card
- A nice binder or report cover in which to house all the items
I may find it necessary over time to add items, but I definitely don’t anticipate taking any of the above items out of the promotional package.
When working with potential clients, I think it’s such a great marketing tool and strategy to include a sample of your tangible work for review as well as provide all the contact information to where your presence on online platforms exists. There’s no substitute for the ability of physical copies of content, highlighting products and services, to provide some realistic context as to what a creative entrepreneur can actually offer.
Duration of Task: 2 days. Some of the first day, working on the task, was eaten into because I was still finishing up the Etsy shop updates. So, day 2 of this task will require some dedicated work time since I’ll be looking to make up for the first day’s deficit in time worked on the new task. Also, please note that the duration of the task takes into account the two-fold process that I’ll need to work through in this goal challenge, which will include:
- updating the packet pieces (all of the items are already in packet-ready shape or are in the process of being packet-ready with some tweaking to make them applicable for the entities to which they are to be distributed) AND
- having the packet pieces printed out professionally and purchasing the binder/report covers to house the packets
Practical Application of Day 6 for Your Life: I’ll complete this section for tomorrow’s blog post as part of the second day of creating my promotional packets. So, stay tuned.
