Part 4 of my Untitled Book #2 reminds me that there is an essential business side to any creative endeavor that one wishes to successfully bring to life for the world’s viewing pleasure. So, I constantly remind myself that the creative side produces the work, but the business side gets the work into the hands of those who can use and appreciate it the most.
With that being said, Happy Active Listening to installment 4 of the audio book. Feel free to sit back, relax, and enjoy today’s reading:
Furthermore, part 4’s message is truly near and dear to my heart. (After all, I’m a business major but, more importantly, I now assume my rightful placement as a creative entrepreneur.) And I couldn’t help but share today’s list from a previous blog post, where there were 7 tips. So, I’ve added a +2 to today’s list. Instead of 5 tips, you’ll get “The Top 7”. Hope you don’t mind.
Check out the seven calls-to-action that identify those with a business-minded or GETTING WORK DONE mentality:
Appreciate the Process – get the most you can out of your learning experiences. These opportunities may come with some growing pains, but they’re designed to move you forward toward your goal post. You may not always enjoy the process, but you can learn to appreciate it. After all, processes are simply a means to an end.
Serve the People – find solutions to the problems people have.
Have a Plan – document the processes that are going to get you to your goal destinations. And then, actively carry out those processes.
Do the Work – perform the activities that lead toward GETTING THINGS DONE. You can’t bypass this step because the work won’t do itself.
Be Proactive – gain the knowledge, skills, and experience you need in order to thrive in your creative space. (If possible, do this step in advance rather than through a reactionary mode.)
Be Consistent – have a willingness to work on a “regular” and “continuous” basis until you achieve your goal(s).
Don’t Give Up – stay the course if you’re on track. Or, go a different direction if what you’re doing isn’t getting you where you need to go. It’s okay to pivot in your business-minded pursuits. Tweak your strategies, revamp them, and even do a complete overhaul if you must. JUST DON’T GIVE UP.
