Family Responsibilities Come Before Content Marketing Every Time

I contemplated whether or not I would go ahead and publish this post or just wait until this coming Friday, but I just couldn’t help myself. It’s difficult to let huge gaps of time go by without visiting with you and letting my writing therapy do its inner healing.

Truly, I count it a privilege to get to express myself through the written word. And lately, I’ve been drawn away somewhat from my first creative love. So, it’s time to get back on track. But don’t get me wrong. There will, inevitably, be those times when it will be virtually impossible to write a blog post, make a video, create a new product, or distribute any content for that matter.

Let me just tell ya. I’ve recently had some competing priorities, involving family (inside and outside of the home), that have created a necessity to temporarily step away from content-making for several consecutive days. So, if you’ve been one to follow my progress on my different platforms (“thank you” by the way), then you’ve noticed that I’ve slowed down a bit lately and been somewhat delinquent in getting content out.

And this is what I know to be true: family and the human connection trumps social media, online marketplaces, and selling one’s wares every time. This I know to be true, but some wise family members lovingly reminded me of this very thing once or twice over the last couple of weeks.

Through watching the adversities my elderly family members have and continue to go through, I can easily pick up on an overlying theme in their “circle of life”; and it’s that your health is one of the most prized possessions you could ever own. So, it’s worth doing everything humanly possible to preserve it. And that means you have to prioritize the priorities and focus on what matters most in life, when times call for your focused attention. Spreading yourself too thin has never been a good thing in the long-run (or the short-run, for that matter). You deteriorate your overall health and fail to give your full effort on the most important demands.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks in “rare appearance” mode with some of my regularly scheduled blog posts (only on Mondays and Fridays now), pinning to Pinterest, tweeting on Twitter, and publishing new product offerings to my Etsy shop. But, I’m slowly wiggling my way out of the backed-up abyss I’ve found myself in lately. As a matter of fact, I didn’t get last Friday’s post out until Sunday, I didn’t get Monday’s post out until today, I didn’t get last week’s products out on my Etsy shop until this week but then combined them with this week’s and posted them all today. And, I haven’t done any pinning on Pinterest for over a week or tweeting on Twitter. But, I intend to accomplish some pinning and tweeting busywork throughout this week.

Regardless, I took care of the critically urgent responsibilities that were most important and I feel really good about that. The attention to detail that I put forth, concerning my family members, was needful and extremely helpful to their well-being. Anyway, the online platforms can wait until I have time to catch up with them. Family first. And, I’m beginning to let that sink in my noggin more and more as I evaluate what life is truly about.

With that being said, I have my family situations under control and have turned some much-needed attention back to my content. However, it’s a great feeling knowing that I have the flexibility to navigate between the two on a daily basis. And with one taking over at some points in my life, I know that I’ll eventually find an opening to incorporate the other into my timetable when it’s most suitable.

On a whole different subject, my son’s first day of school (remotely) is going splendidly. The children are so adorable. They spent the majority of the morning working through the technology learning curve. This school year will be different for him, but I can already tell that Little Man is going to have a great fifth-grade year. The children will miss out on some of the novelties that fifth graders (elementary graduating classes) have come to look forward to, but the important thing to note is that he’ll still get to learn, grow, and thrive.

I can already tell he’s got a fantastic teacher with boatloads of patience. So, he and the other 28 students are in great hands. And Little Man is keeping his computer sound on speaker (instead of using his headphones), mainly because I told him to so I can listen in. I may not be his teacher, but I’m still a mother who wants to be all up in his school-from-home business. Hee! Hee!

  1. Well, first of all, welcome to the blogging community. I pray that you find it rewarding and life-changing for you and those who enjoy reading your content. And second of all — you are a very busy parent.:) What a blessing to have three little ones so close in age to one another. They’ll enjoy having one another to grow up with, And, I totally agree with you on the importance of time and patience in arriving at the appropriate balance in one’s life. “Balance” is so vital to the successes that we’re sure to stumble upon throughout our personal as well as professional journeys. And, it always helps me put priorities into the appropriate perspective when I remember that Family’s First. Take care.

  2. Thank you for sharing this – I am new to the blogging world and I am finding a great outlet for me personally. However, I have three small children. All three and under and they do call me away from anything personal OFTEN. I know it’s important to balance everything, but it’s going to take time and patience. I appreciate the encouragement.

  3. I’m praying for their sanity, too. Many of them are parents who have their own kids doing distance learning at the same time they’re teaching, so they really are superhumans right now. It’s incredible the lengths they’re going for their students, and I do hope we parents always remember they’re doing their very best and we need to support them as well as our students.

  4. Hey there Kat – very well stated! My mode of operation these days is totally “Flexibility”. I can’t function without it.

And thanks for your words of encouragement, regarding my son’s start to his school year. Speaking of sanity, I’m already praying for my son’s teacher (really all of the teachers) who will have to navigate throughout the new territory of distance learning this school year. They will need us (parents) to be supportive, to be patient like they are with our children, and to positively reinforce the instruction they’re providing to our children. They have their work cut out for them — that’s for sure.

  5. That’s great that your son’s distance learning has started off so well! I hope it continues to go well.

Flexibility is my favorite thing about running my blog all by myself. It can be a lot of work, especially when other platforms are factored in, but then there’s that ability to pull back whenever something more important is demanding attention. It’s so important to find that balance, just to preserve sanity!
