Untitled Book 2 - Part 11

Part 11:

Also ask yourself:

What are your areas needing improvement? What obstacles and hindrances are holding you back? What are your setbacks?

The strong parts of our makeup will always take up residence with those areas where we need some fine-tuning – areas that may be problematic or present unpleasant challenges for us. And, I know that people can tend to look at challenges from a negative lens, instead of taking on a more optimistic approach when dealing with those challenges.

So, here’s want I want us to try out for size. Let’s try looking at our not-so-strong areas as occasions to rise to the challenges. A positive mindset is key to making improvements in our lives. How else are we going to assume a willingness to tackle the unkempt parts of our makeups if we don’t put a little positivity into the mix?

And yes, I’m purposely dancing around the term, “weaknesses“, because I know that terminology can put unfavorable labels on us sometimes; and those labels have the ability to put inhibiting limits and obstacles in our way that force us into boxes we don’t want to be in.

I’d much rather take a proactive outlook on this section of The Rightful Placement Process by referring to our so-called “weaknesses” as areas that need improvement. To me, this more affirmative terminology is an effective way to look at those areas where we may be lacking in skill level but are quite capable of making some life improvement strides in.

Furthermore, changing up the terminology (to inspire a mindset of betterment) also puts an action-driven spin on subject matter that has historically been deemed as negative in connotation.

For example, instead of reiterating the fact that I’m weak in social media etiquette (making it seem as if I have to stay stuck in this area of “weakness” forever), I choose to refer to social media etiquette as being an area that I need to devote some time and attention to improving. Acknowledging the fact that I need to work to improve creates a sense of urgency and a call to action in order to grow.

And “growth” is another one of those affirmative terminologies that can move you into an active state of bettering your personal makeup. Growth opportunities are simply challenges that are worth taking on. We can get better in our areas that need improvement and even get them to a place where they become our strengths over time. Sometimes, it just takes a different perspective (a mindset shift) in which to view challenges in order to work them out.
