Productivity Tuesday: The Perks of a Blogging Schedule

Let me just say that, for me personally, having a blogging schedule has been truly beneficial. Yet, I realize that a schedule might not work for everyone. And since I can’t speak for any other blogger, I’ll stick to what I know and share what’s worked for me. Who knows? Maybe what I share might resonate with you. Please keep reading to find out if that’s true.

Creating a blogging schedule has been the productivity tool that has kept my continuous flow of blogging ideas in some semblance of organization.

When I first entered the blogosphere as a contributor, I always thought that I had a lot to give through the ability to share my thoughts, knowledge, and emotions through words. But, I don’t think I really quantified just how much “a lot” really meant to me.

Now, I’m not usually one to emphasize the whole “quantity over quality” dichotomy or vice versa; but for this particular blog post, I’m purposely going to do that very thing. Both aspects are important in building one’s blogging community. And while I know oh-so-well that a single powerful message can affect the masses, I also believe that the more times your voice resounds, the more opportunities there are for others to hear or read what your voice has to say.

Therefore, I would have never thought almost two years ago that I would truly have as much to say as I’ve had. But as I left the outskirts of the blogosphere and moved further inward, I noticed that my ability to share with the world increased, not slowed down. No, not one little bit.

And for the life of me, I don’t have an explanation for it other than, I write about personal and world events, the things I’ve learned, and the people who surround me. I write about life. Personally, life never gets old to me and I pray that I have plenty of it left before it’s all said and done. So, with more life comes more blogging.

But, back to the true subject at hand. (I’m reeling myself in before I go on a completely different tangent than I intended to). And this, in a nutshell, is my dilemma. My mind is inundated with ideas and thoughts all the time. I’m thinking that just by the sheer act of writing and writing and writing some more that this phenomenon might have come about.

Plus, I’m wordy by nature, verbally-speaking. So, maybe I’m just transferring my gift of gab to the written word. It’s just a thought.Β

And as I continue to live and learn and write my thoughts at Degrees of Maternity, my middle-aged mind has so much to say and has needed some type of organized method in which to take the jumbled-up words from my brain and arrange them in something meaningful to the wonderful people who read my blog posts.

Are you starting to see why I value having a blogging schedule? If not, let me explain a little further.

Honestly, I never thought I’d be one of those bloggers who blogged almost every day of the week . . . maybe once or twice, but not daily. Who can possibly have that much to say?

Blogging Schedule!

And over the course of the past one year and 9 months, I’ve managed to organically land at 5 days out of the week (Monday through Friday). It didn’t happen overnight. And no, I don’t have other writers who help write on my blog. I just gradually increased the communications as I continued to have more and more to say and not enough days of the week in which to say it. So, my blogging schedule lengthened to account for the overflow.

I love it, though.

Mondays are my days to share my creative journeys.

Tuesdays are my productivity tips days.

Wednesdays are currently my days to share book excerpts from my book #2 (never self-published like I’d originally intended, but officially published in bits and pieces on my blog).

Thursdays have been devoted to The Art of People Business articles that cover personal and professional development. (But, Thursdays are getting a face-lift. More about that on Thursday.)

And, Fridays have taken on the new role of “freebie” days, where I’m sharing digital printables that have been designed for in-home use for parent/guardian and child.

Here are some of the perks to having a blogging schedule:

1.

With this blogging schedule I’ve outlined, I’m able to sort out my thoughts and assign them to a home each week. As my ideas materialize, I simply get them recorded asap (either by hand or by a handheld audio device such as my phone). Basically, my go-to is whatever is most handy so I can get my thoughts out of my head and into a more permanent storage place.

I can, then, figure out later where my thought process best fits in the weekly blogging timeline I’ve just laid out for you. And if the subject matter doesn’t exactly fit my framework but it’s important enough to bring out on this blog, then I simply figure out a way to squeeze it in.

2.

The schedule also affords me the opportunity to keep things fresh each day of the week and discuss a variety of related topics that are all in line with Degrees of Maternity’s message of positivity in the areas of writing, parenting, personal and professional development, healthy choices, education, family life, productivity, goal-setting, and content creation journeys.

3.

I also think that having a schedule provides a benefit to you, because it allows you some foresight into what’s coming from me to you each week. Ideally, I’d love for you to check out my content Monday through Friday, but I realize that there may be certain blog subject matter that speaks out to you more than others. So, your familiarity with my blogging schedule allows you to tune into the days you want to check in, while saving you from content that you might want to forgo.

So, if you have a lot of content to sort through, want a productive way to organize and disseminate it, and desire to keep the content fresh throughout the week, you might want to give a blogging schedule a try (if you haven’t already). ⇐ (This last sentence serves as my “Tip of the Week” as well.)
