Today’s freebie is very near and dear to my heart. Probably because it reminds me of an area in which I was lacking when it came to homeschooling Little Man. And now that he’s schooling from home again, I want to rectify myself and make sure he’s getting the appropriate amount of activity that a nine-year-old (soon to turn 10) should be receiving.
This freebie was actually inspired by my son’s Physical Education (P.E.) teacher at his elementary school. His teacher had extra exercise activities that he encouraged his students to do outside of school. These were exercises that could be done at home or outdoors and that were intended to motivate the students to go above and beyond the physical activity they received at school.
There was a different activity the students were to complete each day and the activity was listed on a monthly calendar so the children didn’t even have to come up with their own exercise ideas. Once the month was over, the children could turn in their calendars (signed off by a parent), stating that they completed all the physical enrichment activities on the calendar. Then, the children were rewarded by the P.E. teacher.
So, the “Exercise Tips for Your Child” freebie is designed to provide some of those ideas for your family’s use as well. A list of exercises and physical activities is provided to give you some ideas of what you can implement in your home with your child. And, a reference to a resource that gives an illustration of what some of the exercises look like, as well as explains the mechanics of how to perform the exercises, is included.
Keeping our little ones busy (while at home) requires more than just doing school work. We need to keep them physically active as well. We can’t afford to drop the ball on this one; their physical well-being depends on it.

Lisa – I think it’s absolutely great that you are involved with your children’s physical activity. For me personally, I’ve always felt that having someone to exercise with is a more enjoyable way of getting some active work in. And the time seems to go by too quickly when you have someone to share it with (versus exercising alone and you can’t wait until your workout routine is over). And, having that “someone” be your child is just the icing on top of the cake. I love it!

I agree – when my kids start to act crazy and fight constantly, I know they are desperately needing exercise! They are calmer, better behaved, and more able to focus afterwards. I also enjoy getting involved in their Phys-Ed exercises because it improves my own fitness and well being. And gives us a fun way to spend time together.
