Part 7:
And I don’t mind touting around the terms: creative, content creator, or creative entrepreneur when identifying what it is I do. I put words together to create messages that hopefully evoke a sense of positivity, inspiration, encouragement, motivation to succeed, motivation to improve, productivity, and all-things-hopeful. I finally took the leap of faith in putting my writing out into the world to see how others responded to it.
What did it actually take to arrive at the destination where I’m currently residing? Well, it took a series of steps or a process to find my true placement. And the whole “placement” process started at my crossroads experience. So, I want to head back to that whole discussion, because the decisions that we make at the crossroads determine the direction we take and destination we move toward.
Everyone’s crossroads are unique to their particular set of circumstances. And if I wasn’t clear before, let me give you my straight-to-the-point definition of a crossroads. A crossroads is a point that you come to in your life where you have to make a decision about something – figure out what it is you want to do, the path you want to take, and the outcome you want to receive. Then, as you start on your new journey toward goal completion, you spend the majority of your travel time figuring out and taking action on the steps that will get you to your destination.
Now, we all have multiple crossroads experiences that we face in our lifetimes. I know I’ve had my fair share. But, the decisions I made at this last one basically solidified how I would spend my time and what my purpose or mission in life would look like, going forward. There were definitely very important decisions made that would sketch out a tentative course for my future, personally as well as professionally.
And again, this last life-changing crossroads experience came to be because I had an occasion in my life where my time would no longer be devoted to educating my son during the day (as he was returning back to public school). I needed to determine how to constructively fill the void that no more homeschooling would create. Needless to say, I would still have the housework staring me in the face each day, but that’s a constant companion that will always be with me regardless of the career path I choose.
And yes, being a wife and mother are roles that I truly value and consider a privilege to hold. So, I would always have things to do, but I’m talking about filling the void where those skills, talents, and abilities that I gained through my education and prior work opportunities could only satisfy. Where would these professional abilities be best utilized? That layer to who I was and am had to be addressed and not only addressed, but that layer would need to be fulfilled in some way (outside of wife, mom, and domestic worker).
