A Writer’s “Can Nots” While in an Inactivity Rut

If you’ve come to the realization that a lot of what I share with you originated from first-hand experience, then you’re totally in tune with the inspiration behind Degrees of Maternity (DOM). Real life in spades. And recently, I shared my current writing dilemma with you. (Check out A Displaced State of Writing: Weeks Post-Manuscript for a little background.) Anyway, I seem to be in temporary stall mode for book #2. But while I’m uncomfortably lodged in the in-between, I’ve decided to put inactivity on the run by busying myself with some roundabout book writing activities in the interim. Again, this discourse will make total sense to you if you peruse my confession in the blog post link above.

From a standstill position for book #2 at the DOM Writer’s Block, here are the real-life take-aways that I’ve come away with (in no particular order). I’ve learned that you can’t do the following with inactivity:

  • You can’t Netflix/YouTube it away.
  • You can’t sleep it away.
  • You can’t hide it away.
  • You can’t eat it away.
  • You can’t ignore it away.
  • You can’t feed it.
  • You can’t entertain it.
  • You can’t underestimate it.
  • You can’t hold on to it.
  • You can’t make excuses for it.

Seal

You have to address it head-on and move out of it. I’ve learned that inactivity is very real and can be quite debilitating to a writer, content creator, or anyone in general. So, you have to fight it with its archenemy, productivity (activity). This attack maneuver is exactly what I’ve decided to unleash during my hiatus from book writing. And now that I’ve introduced you to the “can nots”, my plan is to share the “cans” with you next post.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
