I heard it said, by several authors, that there should be a time when you step away from your book after writing the draft and take a breather. Since I can’t claim the ownership rights to this brilliant advice, I’ll just go ahead and jump on the bandwagon. I’m in total agreement with this statement; and I even went so far as to purposely ignore my manuscript for a whole week and a half. I wholeheartedly believe that this non-action, on my part, was an optimal move in relation to my overall well-being.
At this particular moment, I’m feeling virtually recharged. And this is what my “writing rest” did for me. It allowed me to come back to my book with some fresh perspective. As I predicted, I’ve made some revisions to my draft… some rewording here and a little rearranging there (with a bit of recreating sprinkled on top). Yesterday, I managed to sit back down at a table at the Writer’s Block. I knew I wouldn’t be able to help myself; and as soon as I sat down at that table, the writer’s wheel started turning. Don’t be concerned, though. I’m not planning on rewriting my entire book. I’ll be content with just tweaking a few items.
Because I’m determined to meet a June/July 2019 book launch, my plan is to spend the better part of next month revising, editing, formatting, and self-publishing my book. I suppose I better throw some marketing efforts in there as well. (By the way, I’m going to be soliciting your assistance in this area as I’m not too proud to ask my Accountability Partners for help when I need them the most. But, I’ll save this topic of discussion for a future blog post). As for the present, my eyes are on the road right before me… Author Road B of The Road to Authorship, that is. The smooth asphalt is quickly settling me back into a work mode after enjoying my little hiatus. And although my daughter and I are going on a literal mother/daughter road trip (next week) in recognition of her earning her engineering degree, I have a feeling our destination vacation will inspire some “after the draft” action. When I get back, I’ll make sure to let you know how things went. Writing rest has ended… now on to the finishing touches.
