Writing Momentum (Part One)

I didn’t want to make the title of this post too long, so I settled with “Writing Momentum (Part One)”.  However, if I’d gone with my original, more lengthy title, today’s reflection would have been named “Writing Momentum… All the Little Things (Part One)”.  Week 11 encapsulated all the mini lessons that I’ve learned over past weeks on The Road to Authorship.  I’m intently observing how these lessons have come together to produce a soon-to-be-completed manuscript that I’m becoming more and more proud of as the weeks have gone by.  I can look back from week 1 to the present and list some of the wisdom I’ve gained, put under my belt, and will utilize for my subsequent books.  And since I don’t want to keep you too long on this post, I think I’ll save all of my precious nuggets of writing self-awareness for next week.

In recognition of closing out my manuscript, next week’s post will celebrate the learning opportunities that I may have initially overlooked but, in retrospectively examining my writing journey, have come to appreciate and acknowledge as worthy contributors toward the achievement of my goal(s).  I know I sound like I’m coming to the end of an era or something, but that’s not my intention.  I definitely have one more week of writing to go on my manuscript in order to say that I accomplished that particular part of the goal, but my overall objective is to complete the writing of my first book and get it self-published for others’ viewing pleasure.  Therefore, it’s safe for me to say that I will have successfully traveled one road, while turning onto another one.  This new road continues to make up the complete road that I must travel in order to reach my ultimate destination.

I’ll call this new road Authorship Road B and I should arrive there about this time next week.  Road B will take all the little things gained there and then combine them with all the little things that I gained from Authorship Road A (completing a manuscript).  For a sneak peak of some of the major learning opportunities I’m currently studying on road B and will be immersed in after completing week 12, I’d like for you to visit my prior post, entitled Wise Saying #7, which goes into a review of Ali Luke’s book, Publishing E-Books for Dummies.  Her book is essentially my road B (self-publishing e-books).  And, you can probably guess the formula that results when including the two roads above.  A + B = C, right?  Well, in my rough estimation of the situation, I think reality looks more like A +B + C…= ?  I’m not entirely sure, but I do know that writing life doesn’t stop with getting a book published.  Sure, I will be able to say that I’m a published author once I get my book out there on Amazon and any other outlets in which I intend to make my book available, but the journey doesn’t end there.  I do believe that Authorship Road C will be awaiting my arrival at that time and all of the post-publication education will then commence.

Increasingly, it appears to me that the writing journey is on-going.  Does it ever stop?  Well, that was a rhetorical question for you to reflect upon for yourself.  Quite frankly, the answer is probably different from person to person.  However, I’m more inclined to think the answer is “NO”.  And if that’s the case, bring it.  I was one of those odd individuals that liked school a lot.  So, let the professional writing students of the University of Lifetime Learning stand up.  I’m standing.
