Elementary Art at its Finest

As a doting mother, I reserve the right to appreciate the fine arts of my 8-year old up-and-comer and to showcase his creations from time to time.  Today, I’m revealing pictures taken at Little Man’s, my youngest son’s, third-grade art show at his elementary school this past Thursday evening.  He was sooooooo excited about the event and managed to give us almost daily reminders that started from the initial announcement of the show until its final arrival.  Hubby, Toodlez, and I were able to attend, but Junior’s class schedule conflicted with the event; so he missed out on the festivities.  Fortunately, my daughter’s phone (due to the untimely malfunctioning of the family camera) captured enough footage for Junior to get a feel for what he missed.  Furthermore, Little Man will eventually be able to bring his actual artwork home in the near future.

It has been effortless for all members to identify Little Man’s affinity for art.  It comes quite naturally to him and it’s apparent to us all that he enjoys doing artwork at home as well as at school.  And because Hubby and I limit the amount of time he spends utilizing electronic entertainment, Little Man has in a subtle way been forced to use his creative outlet to entertain himself.  He’s become quite skilled at Lego building, using recycled and reusable materials to make body armor and costumes, building 3-D characters and figures, and drawing sketches and full-fledged portraits of various objects.  As a content creator, it’s such a privilege to observe how Little Man’s imagination explores in such an artistic mode.

Now, I said all of the above to say this… if you recognize a talent within your child, you owe it to him or her to make a big deal about it.  We should be the biggest fan, the loudest cheerleader, and give the most rave review.  In more ways than one, our children have an uncanny way of doing the same for us.  As a matter of fact, I’m a huge proponent of parents cultivating their children’s talents and allowing them to share and bless others with those very talents.  Therefore, don’t be surprised if you see some of Little Man’s artwork intermingled within the future projects of Degrees of Maternity.  I know when to stay in my lane (sticking to the skills I’m strong in) and to leave the fancy stuff to the purveyors of fine art.
