Here’s my personal perspective on the whole “content creation” topic. It seems like a person who truly enjoys creating that quality “thing” almost ends up doing so in a most natural, effortless sort of way. Nothing forced, nothing manufactured. It’s like a creative force that just flows out of the individual and the outcome resulting from such a phenomenon is something very special. I mean the all-in-it-to-win-it creator may even just stumble upon the realization that he or she has been doing that special something practically all his or her life in some form or another. This creative then realizes that I actually really enjoy doing this “thing”, I’m kind of good at it, and I think my “thing” is even benefiting others in some profound way. Or, maybe it’s just benefiting that particular creative. That’s okay too. It’s all about making a positive impact; and if you’re that one person, on the receiving end of your creative contribution, then so be it. It’s still a win-win situation all around.
The account above is the light bulb that finally came on for me. As a youth, I would have never thought that I would start blogging and YouTubing in my mid-40s. (Yes, I did say YouTubing. I’ll get to that momentarily). Actually, I suppose I noticed some tell-tale signs from my youth up that creating communicative content could certainly be a part of my foreseeable future. Some of those signs were…
- performing well in my English/Language Arts instruction as a student.
- being told by family members, especially my Mom and Husband, that I have strong verbal and written communication skills and then being encouraged to utilize those skills.
- enjoying reading and writing (not in all cases, but most).
- providing proofreading, editing, and grammatical support to family, friends, coworkers, and supervisors who saw me as a go-to person for such assistance.
But, I really couldn’t have imagined the extreme fun I’m experiencing on this content creation ride and it’s completely enjoyable and fulfilling every time I “communicate create”. This brings me to the topic of YouTube.

As noted in Day 22: Procrastination Station, I mentioned that I was putting all the pieces together to get a YouTube channel going. Well folks, I’m officially on YouTube with my first video uploaded as of today! I wanted to make the announcement while it’s fresh off the press. Now, remember that I’m an amateur YouTuber with a steep learning curve to go through, so please give me a little room to work out all the kinks before you white-glove test my video content. Just know that I plan on getting better and better with each video I put out. (That’s my plan anyway). There’s a lot to learn with this process, but I feel like I’ve learned a lot already. Me and techie stuff? Who’d have thunk it? But I have to give credit to Husband, Junior, and Toodlez for their patience with me and assistance on getting the Degrees of Maternity channel up and running. They were a great help; but don’t get me wrong, there were times when I had to put on my big girl pants and get to work. It’s all good, though; I’m having a blast. Take a look at my first vid:
Look promising? Well, if you don’t get anything else from my blog post today, please get this: think about those natural gifts that you’re passionate about (those creative outlets that bring you enjoyment) and try not to put them on the back burner. They may be the very things that provide you personal fulfillment, or satisfy the something that someone out there needs, or even lead you to your future career path. You never know until you consciously and purposely pursue them. One thing I do know is that there’s going to be a lot of content creation going on here at Degrees of Maternity. I’m trying new things, folks. Peace out!
