Day 25 of the 30-Day Challenge: Procrastination Station
Task: To use the self-cleaning option to clean out my oven.
Reason for Task: I’ve never used the self-cleaning option in all the years I’ve had my oven and it needs a really good cleaning out… like a professional cleaning. It’s beyond simply trying to wipe off the surface. So, I’m opting to go the automatic rather than the manual route.
Duration of Task: 1 day

Outcome: This task was an absolute fail! I read my oven operating manual and found the self-cleaning section and everything seemed pretty straight forward. With the press of an oven button and several hours later, the inside of my oven should have been looking considerably better. As a matter of fact, I have the option of choosing a short cleaning cycle of 2 hours through the max (heavy-duty) cleaning cycle of 4 hours. I chose the 4-hour cycle because it’s more appropriate for handling heavily-soiled messes. Once the 4-hour cycle ends, then a 1-hour cooling down period takes place; and during this time, the oven door stays locked. When the cooling down period ends, the oven is supposed to automatically unlock. Guess what happened? The oven door didn’t unlock and the oven display revealed the following error message: F30 ERR. And unfortunately, the F30 code tends to indicate that there could be a little repair work required in the near future. Yes, I went through the proper procedures, just like the manual stated. What I’m thinking is that the max cleaning cycle might have fried a heating coil or messed up the control panel to the oven somehow. You know what that means? Instead of me being able to use my oven tomorrow to prepare my big meal that provides left-overs throughout the weekend, I’m going to need to meal plan for food items that don’t require oven or stove preparation. Or, my family’s going to have to eat out. Wait! This is going to require some regrouping.
Actually, Hubby and Junior were looking at the oven while I was typing this blog piece. I appreciate the fact that their first inclination is to either troubleshoot the problem by checking out the instruction manual or searching YouTube for a hopefully quick and inexpensive fix. They’re good about exhausting their options before throwing in the white flag and surrendering to the repairman or salesman, depending on the severity of the problem. Either way, I totally didn’t expect today’s outcome. Goes to show that even the best laid-out plans can backfire and results can be completely out of your control at times. In situations like these, less ideal plans B, C, and D begin to take form.
Cliffhanger: Well, this task didn’t get accomplished today and the whole self-cleaning initiative doesn’t seem to be that important anymore (compared to losing access to one of my most utilized cooking appliances). I’ll have to follow up with you at a later date on this one. Hubby and Junior have retreated from troubleshooting efforts for the time being. Theirs was a valiant effort and Toodlez and I even provided some woman power, but to no avail. We’ll come together tomorrow with the next plan in line… plan B (whatever that is).
