Day 13 of the 30-Day Challenge: Procrastination Station
Task: To create a logo for Degrees of Maternity.
Reason for Task: From the onset of Degrees of Maternity, I’ve known that I wanted to create a purposeful representation (in symbolic form) of what this blog and its offspring mean to me. I have, for some time, carried around a hand-drawn depiction of my logo… fully conceived from the mind of yours truly. In other words, it’s totally my baby.
However, I’ve lacked the wherewithal to add the graphic design element to my logo through technical application. This is where the task comes to a screeching halt and, hence, the reason for its drop-off at Procrastination Station. Needless to say, this blog ain’t getting any younger. It’s been in existence for four months now, so it’s time to make this logo happen.
Duration of Task: Because the logo will provide brand recognition, where its display will create an immediate association to all things related to Degrees of Maternity, I don’t wish to rush the design-making process in any way. The length of this task is, therefore, undetermined but will start today.
Outcome: I had the options of pouring hours of solo work into researching how to use software such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or CorelDRAW (three resources readily available to me) to create my logo or to seek assistance from someone who has experience in graphic design. Guess which option I chose? Of course, I opted for help! I may be technologically-challenged but I know a prime opportunity when I see it. And, my Daddy taught me to always use my resources, especially when you consider those resources to be subject matter experts in an area of interest. So, I have enlisted assistance from my son, Junior, for this design-making effort. Now, Junior will say that he is no expert in graphic design and is, in fact, very average. Well, he took a year of graphic design as a senior in high school, has created websites and apps, and just received an “A” in his Intro to Digital Design class in college. As far as I’m concerned, he’s an expert in my estimation.
I have given my drawing to Junior and will have him assist me in bringing this logo to life over time. He recommended using CorelDRAW for this project, so that’s the software we’ll use. I won’t bore you with the details of what the logo looks like just yet. I figure seeing is believing. I’ll make sure and post a “Logo Launch” when it’s ready to go live and give you the how and why I came up with the design. So, I’ll go ahead and sign off for now.
To be continued…
Quote of the Day (mine): I feel like this is the start of something beautiful. Today is Logo Day! Let’s go!
